Have you ever asked life, the
Universe, or God for something only to seem to receive the complete
opposite? How did you respond? Could it be you got exactly what you asked
for just not how you wanted it?
Every morning I focus on gratitude before I get out of bed. As I do that
I’m aligning my thoughts and vibrations for what I desire in the day. Do
you start your day paving a positive path of what you want or are you
paving a negative path of what you don’t want? (More on this another time,
but for now know you begin paving your day with your initial thoughts,
whether you actually want the outcome or not – so be selective!)
Recently I started my day thanking the Universe for my phone, computer,
and mail bringing me
good news.
Well, when I checked email a “not interested” message from a potential
client was in my inbox. In my humanness I experienced a moment of
disappointment. Where
do I go from here? What amazed me was what followed.
I began examining how I define
good news.
If you’re puzzled and find yourself questioning if I’m really warped, know
that I too had these same thoughts! What seemed like backward or twisted
thinking was how I knew I was on to something.
In other words, our current thoughts are only effective enough to get us
where we are. If we want to
advance ourselves
(in any capacity) we have to think thoughts that contradict
our current thinking habits.
This is our challenge as human beings, since our brains are wired to
convince us that anything we continually think is truth, and therefore a
contrary thought is wrong, false, a lie – whatever message is generated
for you.
In order to learn we must change very developed thought patterns to new
thought patterns. Guaranteed this will create an internal debate. The more
significant impact the new thought will have on our life, the greater the
intensity of the internal debate. The more intense the debate, the more
necessary it is to shift our thinking.
Always adhere to your core values, however, be willing to examine them,
and most importantly, DO NOT confuse core values with ingrained thought
patterns. What’s the difference?
Ingrained thought patterns often have a need to make someone/something
wrong to prove its rightness. Have you noticed this creates inner turmoil,
not inner peace? Inner peace is the clue to true alignment with our core
values.
What was the good
news deduced
from my “not interested” email? I could say “Next” and redirect my time
and energy in a more productive direction. The Universe (as always, but
the question is, “Am I receptive?”) was guiding me. Sure, sometimes we
need to persist after a “not interested” response. When do we persist and
when do we say, “Next”? Which creates inner peace for you?
But exactly, HOW did I move from disappointment to an
empowering
thought?
-
Pause
-
Breathe (may sound
simplistic yet this is an often forgotten step!)
-
Back up from the situation.
We’re often too close and need to not take it personally (results when
apply steps 1&2 effectively – may need to repeat several times)
-
Ask “What’s
the gift in this?”
-
Shift focus to the gift you
identified in step 4.
Imagine your life when you
redefine good
news. Imagine
our world when we redefine good news and focus on the gifts.
I suspect you’ve heard, “blessings often come in disguises.” How receptive
are you? What good news are you avoiding because you don’t
like the package?
